The McCook Educational Foundation has begun taking donations for the improvement of the technological equipment in the classrooms for the McCook Public Schools. We would like to purchase four adjustable flat panel carts, four mimio Pad Overviews, four large TVs (52 inch) and a Class Pack of 24 QClick RF Classroom Response Systems. This would provide one system in each of the four McCook Schools. Cost for each system is $4,800; thus $19,200 is needed. If you are interested in donating, please send to the address at the end of this article. Donations are tax deductible.

A recent cleaning spree in the MHS Business Office unearthed some information that gives us a glimpse at what was going on in our school system over forty years ago. Business Manager, Rick Haney ’80, found a clipping from the August 12, 1967 McCook Daily Gazette at the back of a file drawer that contained information about the school year that was about to start. Rick was kind enough to bring it to us so we could share the information with you. For many, it’ll bring back a lot of good memories; for others, it will leave you marveling at some of the differences between then and now.

Mary Austin Horendeck ‘32, wrote the words to their junior class song, and it was sung at pep rallies and football games. “It was a rip-roaring good song and they used it for quite a few years,” said the feisty 93-year old, pointing her finger in the air for emphasis. “But then it went into limbo for some reason.”

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED: Thanks to the generous donations of many McCook businesses, residents, and MHS alumni members, the fundraising effort to provide new band uniforms for our high school band has met with great success. Eighty-five uniforms have been ordered and will be here in time for next fall’s marching band competitions. The band members, their instructor, and the band boosters are delighted that their band uniforms will now fit well, look good, and help instill a sense of pride in our MHS musicians. Your donations show that you support the arts in our school and realize that participation in activities like band help to build strong, responsible, and respectful young people.
